McCracken County Humane Society Whistleblower fired

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky.--His cell phone video captured the disturbing pictures of animals being euthanized without sedation, left to die in pools of their own blood, their corpses stacked on top of each other.
That video shocked the community and led to the arrest of a coworker on nine counts of animal cruelty.? A lot of people called Jeremiah Robertson a hero for what he did to expose what was happening at the McCracken County Humane Society, but fast forward to today and Jeremiah Robertson is looking for a new job.
The organization's president says Robertson was a troublemaker who couldn't get along with his boss. Robertson thinks the society has been looking for a reason to fire him ever since he blew the whistle last year, and that reason centers around one dog that wasn't an ideal candidate for adoption, but Robertson and the previous owners say that dog shouldn't have been killed.

Austin Fairfield and Will Kingston love their dogs. They also loved the dogs' brother Gunther, but couldn't take care of all them, and reluctantly took them to the McCracken County Humane Society under the condition that they wouldn't be put down.

"We were very very adamant we told them call us if anything comes up, we'll be there," Fairfield said.

But Gunther was euthanized, Will and Austin didn't get a call until after the fact, and that call was from whistleblower Jeremiah Robertson's fiance after he told her about the dog being euthanized against the previous owners' wishes, and without their knowledge.
He said he was fired on Friday for violating policy and leaking confidential information.

"Its a humane society it's not like C.I.A. or something confidential its a humane society, it should be an open book," Robertson said.

McCracken County Humane Society president James Schumaker said Robertson was insubordinate, constantly arguing with his bosses and not a loyal employee.

"You don't get on the, on the, on your telephone and call the media every time that something happens, you just don't do it," Schumaker said.

Schumaker said Robertson's termination had nothing to with last year's whistle blowing and Robertson violated a part of the employee handbook dealing with loyalty and confidentiality.

Local 6 asked for a copy of that handbook. The president said he didn't have one and said there might be one inside the humane society, we asked for that one he said he couldn't get it because it's currently being revised.

Robertson said he's never seen an employee handbook and is sad he won't get to return to work at the McCracken County Humane Society.? Will and Austin's dogs won't go back either because they got them back and aren't letting them go.

The McCracken County Humane Society President said Jeremiah Robertson was insubordinate and a bad employee, meanwhile Robertson said he's been harassed and retaliated against ever since he blew the whistle last year, saying he can't even use the bathroom without being followed and questioned.

Both the president and Robertson said this is only the fourth animal to be put down since new leaders took control of the facility at the end of last year.
